A tube-shaped fluorescent lamp usually brings up more industrial- like associations than ideas of private domestic use. With our design, we try to combine these technological perceptions and the more comfortable, emotional qualities of a piece of solid wood.
A wooden bar is split into two pieces and milled out to house a fluorescent lamp. The bare ends of the casing display the typical wood grain, whereas the longitudinal sides are covered by a high quality lacquer finish. However, the top and the bottom are perforated by several cutouts, letting pass the light and revealing the wooden core.
